What we think
How we think about building software.
These are opinions rather than values. Each one changes what we would actually recommend, including the times we recommend nothing.
- 01Most businesses do not need another tool
- They need the five they already pay for to talk to each other. The dullest project on our list -- a sync that runs at night so nobody retypes an order in the morning -- usually gives back more hours than anything with a launch event.
- 02The cheapest project is the one we talk you out of
- If something you can buy for a monthly fee does ninety percent of it, we will say so, even when that ends the conversation. A business that trusts our no is worth more than one project we should not have taken.
- 03If the team on site will not use it, it does not work
- The person on the front desk decides whether a system succeeded, not the person who signed for it. So we build around how the work actually happens, including the workarounds nobody puts in a requirements document.
- 04Nobody should be locked in
- Your code, your data, your accounts, standard tools, real documentation. If you hire your own developer next year they should be able to pick it up without ringing us first. An agency that owns your accounts owns your business.
- 05AI where it earns its place, ordinary software everywhere else
- A voice agent that answers the phone at two in the morning earns its keep. AI bolted onto something that needed a database and a form does not. Part of the job is telling you which one you are looking at.
- 06Software is not finished at launch
- The real edge cases arrive in the first weeks, with real people and real data. A plan that ends on launch day is a plan that ends just before the hard part, so we stay on through it.
